The paper will be an interactive presentation exploring the life skill of 'critical thinking'. Currently in our society critical thinking is perceived as a negative attribute and therefore it is not overtly fostered and encouraged. Everyday usage of the term 'critical' will be investigated from a socio-cultural perspective. The skill of critical thinking and its place in higher education will be analysed. The value of the ability to generate multiple responses and the application of critical thinking skills in the workplace will be the paper's focus. An argument will be presented to re-establish the concept of 'critical' in everyday language so it is seen in a valued and positive light.
